Walking the dog

I have a 8 month old male Jack Russell. He is both naughty and nice. The weekends are his walkie days where we go for 1-2 hr walks around the neighbourhood. He is quite naughty and he likes to jump and snap at those who walk nearby to him. And when he does that, I have to apologise profusely to the poor passerby. But he is cute too. And when he seats with you and looks at you with adoring eyes - he is irresistable!

I am not a dog lover before. But now through these last few months, it is becoming hard not to love dogs. They are love-able in that they can interact with you. They lick you. Their eyes follow you whenever you are in the room. These are the things that my children and spouse will not do.

Go get yourself a dog too and you know what you have missed all these while!

No empty words from God

Dt.32.46 “Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. 47 For it is no empty word for you, but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

The scriptures are our very life words, they are no empty words! If we are careful to do all of them, we will live long in the land. Why wait or procrastinate anymore? Do them and live!

By nature I am a procrastinator. If i can push it off to tomorrow, I will. Let tomorrow deal with the problems. Perhaps I can handle it better tomorrow.

But here I am reminded afresh to take His Words seriously. To do them. All of them. And to live long in this land.

Help me O God to do so.

Am I still as strong today?

Josh.14.11 I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. 12 So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.

How strong am I today? Not just physically but spiritually. Is there still a hunger for spiritual pursuits after 30 plus years as a Christian? I used to have Caleb as my model for perseverance in the faith. Now, he seems to be a bit too good for me as I lagged far behind. Maybe I do not have his secret, his “wholly follow the LORD” attitude.

Revive that in me again LORD. Let me pursue hot after you, through it all, hurts and joys and all.

Standing from a distance

Lk.17. 11 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”

Even though we stood at a distance, the good LORD hears us and has mercy on us.
God is good and kind to us. He hears us.

No one is too far away for Him to hear.

What is your distance from the Master today? Is it near, or far? Why should it be far and not nearer? What keeps me from coming nearer to Him today? Is it an unconfessed sin? Is it a secret fear?

Come to Him. He will have mercy on us.
